Biography of Kent W. Ford, B.L.A. (Hons), C.L.D.Mr. Ford's career in Urban Design and Landscape Architecture began in 1986, when he received an Honors Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Guelph, Ontario. During his apprenticeship, Kent focused his creative energies on the design of several notable Urban Commercial and Municipal projects thoughout the late 1980s. Following a European sabbatical in 1993, Mr. Ford began his own Toronto based design practice which has produced several award winning projects. In 1997 Kent was part of the design team whose model was selected as the winning entry in the international competition for the Alex Wilson Community Garden in Toronto. The precedent-setting inner city green space gained significant media attention and was the recipient of a City of Toronto Urban Design Award in 2000. This unique project also was selected for inclusion on a CD-ROM of Universal Design Exemplars by the Center for Universal Design at North Carolina State University. Kent's public spaces include several waterfront and park projects in addition to an interior feature garden which he designed for the National Post at Canada Blooms 2001. Several of Mr. Ford's residential designs can be seen regularly on CITY-TV, HGTV and the Life Network, in Canadian House and Home, Landscape Architecture, and Style at Home magazines and as regular features in the Toronto Star, National Post and the Globe and Mail. Outside of his busy design practice, Mr. Ford is co-chair of the Certified Landscape Designers Group at Landscape Ontario and is a regular guest speaker at several industry functions and public seminars.
